Just got a forward about a girl being picked up from a Mumbai nightclub by five men and gang raped before being dumped at Bandstand. The forward that I got did not have a dateline, so I cannot be sure if and when it happened. The forward goes on to state that the victim was unable to remember the unfortunate events. Medical tests confirmed the repeat rapes along with traces of Rohypnol in her blood. While the authenticity of the story cannot be confirmed, what can be said with a degree of certainty is that Rohypnol is a sedative that has been used in many 'date rapes' in the US, with cases now being reported in Europe and Australia. Disturbingly, it has found its way into party circuits in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. The Times of India report in February 2005 wrote about a 23-year-old girl who was under the influence of some drugs and did not even know she had been raped. “It was only when she missed her menstrual cycle that she discovered she was pregnant. She had to resort to an abortion. Her parents freaked out when the found out and got her married off to an NRI.” The drug has earned notoriety to trap girls and abuse them sexually as it leaves the victim with no memory of what happened. A drop of Rohypnol into the girl's drink is all that is required to help the evil design of the men. Rohypnol, which dissolves in drinks easily, is such that the victim doesn't conceive from the rape and the rapist needn't worry about having a paternity test identifying him months later. The damage from drug is believed to be permanent. The female apparently cannot ever conceive. Rohypnol's medical use is as a pre-operation anesthetic or strong sleeping pill, but stronger doses can bring on amnesia. It takes effect very quickly - sometimes as quick as 10 minutes after being taken - and reaches its peak eight hours later when it can render a person totally unconscious. It's about ten times stronger than Valium. Rohypnol has also been used in combination with other drugs to enhance the effects of low grade heroin, to mellow the buzz from crack and heroin, and to soften comedowns. The drug has also acquired a reputation as a party drug, sometimes dubbed the 'love drug'. This is due to its claimed aphrodisiac qualities and because some users say that it gets you more drunk and keeps you that way longer. It is fairly rare in the UK (although rising), but in the US it has a street price of around $2-4 per tablet. The most worrying side effect of Rohypnol is that it can easily be administered without the victim’s knowledge and lengthy sexual assaults can take place with the victim having no memory of events afterwards. In many cases, victims are even unaware that assaults have taken place until their symptoms are recognized or their memory returns. It's a very nasty drug. Apparently, there are websites showing potential offender how to use it! Girls: 1. Even if you are just having soft drinks, you need to be cautious. DON’T LEAVE YOUR DRINKS – soft or hard – UNATTENDED. If you mistakenly leave it unattended, DON’T HAVE THAT DRINK. Please remember: In most cases the assailant is a person known to the victim or even a friend. 2. BUY YOUR OWN DRINKS. 3. ENSURE bottles are UNOPENED or cans are SEALED. 4. STRICTLY, DON’T EVEN TASTE SOMEONE ELSE’S DRINK. 5. If you feel odd, nauseous or drunk after only a couple of drinks, leave immediately and go to a place of safety. If you are alone or with a stranger, call friends to tell them where you are and/or go to the landlord or manager and explain your situation. Shannon 's home, and once he saw where she lived he quickly returned
to the park
